Karolina Pavlova lived almost a hundred years – born in the early 19th century to a family of Russified Germans, Pavlova became a notable figure in the literature of that era.

Her constant interlocutors were the best poets of the generation – Pushkin, Baratynsky, Yazykov, Mickiewicz. Pavlova's poems, published in well-known magazines, should be perceived on par with the works of recognized classics of domestic poetry.

The energy of her poems, possessing a hypnotic intonation and unusual imagery, can be compared to the texts of Emily Dickinson – a younger American contemporary of Pavlova, who created in seclusion. Pavlova, unlike Dickinson, was known during her lifetime but remained in the shadow of the era, only occasionally appearing in dedications and letters of more renowned contemporaries.

There is no doubt that now is the time to rediscover her work.
