Dune. War, diplomacy, and betrayal
An epic strategy game about power, intrigue, and the battle for Arrakis based on the "Dune" universe.
Welcome to the planet Arrakis — a desert and ruthless world that is the only source of the most valuable...
substance in the universe — spice. It prolongs life, expands consciousness, and allows for interstellar travel.
Because of it, the interests of powerful Houses, guilds, and factions clash on the planet. Each strives to become the sole ruler of Arrakis.
In the board game «Dune. War, diplomacy, and betrayal», you will take on the role of one of the great factions and fight for control over the planet on military, political, and economic levels.
Game process:
The game combines several genres and mechanics:
1. Faction asymmetry
Each faction is unique and offers its own playstyle:
Special abilities
Unique leaders
Exclusive ways to gain advantages
Differing starting conditions
This creates incredible variability and makes each game different from the previous ones.
2. Territory control
Arrakis is divided into regions, including key fortresses, the struggle for which largely determines the winner.
Troops move across the map, engage in battles, capture regions, and control spice.
3. Spice harvesting
Spice is the heart of the game.
It can be:
harvested,
stored,
sold,
used for actions.
Control over the spice fields is the most crucial path to victory.
4. Diplomacy, alliances, and betrayals
The game supports the formation of temporary alliances.
Alliances provide powerful bonuses, but:
are concluded by voice,
can be easily broken,
can be undone by fate.
Deception, double dealing, and luring opponents into traps — all of this is part of the strategy.
5. Political and economic influence
Some factions are stronger in economics, others in calculating opponents' actions, and others in predictions or espionage.
Players need to decide on which front to fight and use their House's advantages as effectively as possible.
6. Battles and tactics
Combat occurs in a turn-based format:
choosing a leader,
betting forces,
spending spice,
applying special cards.
Here, not only strength matters but also cunning: a weak leader can defeat a strong one with a well-played combination.
Factions
Typically, the base set includes 6 factions (can vary depending on localization):
House Atreides — analysts and strategists who can foresee other players' decisions.
House Harkonnen — masters of betrayal, controlling spies and conspiracies.
The Emperor — rich and powerful, controls key money in the game.
Fremen — know the desert like no one else, moving easily and resisting the storm.
The Spacing Guild — controls transportation to the planet, benefiting from movement.
Bene Gesserit — manipulators capable of interfering in political and religious processes, as well as predicting the outcome of the game.
Each faction is a unique world with its own philosophy and strategy.
Game objective
Victory can be achieved in several ways:
holding several key fortresses;
reaching alliance conditions;
fulfilling unique faction conditions;
dominating in economics and politics.
Games develop unpredictably: the same table can end in a military victory, cunning intrigue, or sudden betrayal at a crucial moment.
