Raymond Carver is a classic of American literature of the 20th century, an outstanding master of the short form, a heir to Hemingway, Faulkner, and Chekhov. He was called a minimalist and a 'dirty realist,' however, 'there is always a unique strangeness, echoes of myth' in his stories (Los Angeles Times). He received the O.
