127 Hours: Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Saturday, April 26, 2003, 2:41 PM. Eight miles from his truck, deep in the narrow crevice of Blue John Canyon, climber Aron Ralston was descending from a wedge-shaped boulder when the stone suddenly began to shake. Before Aron could jump aside, the falling rock pinned his right hand and wrist against the canyon wall.
Thus began six days of hell for Aron. With only scant supplies of water and food, without a jacket to keep warm during the painfully cold nights, and horrified at the realization that he had told no one where he was going, Aron understood that he was facing a slow death – he was trapped at the bottom of the canyon by a boulder weighing about 400 kilograms at a depth of 3 meters.
And then, to save himself, Aron made the most extraordinary decision anyone could imagine.
