1943. Ana Kaminski passes through the gates of Auschwitz with her frightened young friend Esther Pasternak. As they reach the front of the line, Ana steps forward and quietly announces herself as a midwife – with Esther as her assistant. They are tattooed with numbers and sent to the maternity barrack.
