The Saga of Young Sölvi

Sölvi is fifteen, and he hates everyone: his parents, school, classmates, teachers, himself. But most of all he hates the "standards" by which the people around him live: "likes" — a symbol of success/failure, memorized textbook answers — a guarantee of the teacher's favor, a house in a trendy district of Reykjavik, furnished according to a design magazine — a stamp of "life succeeded." And pretentiousness. What he loves are words. And rap. He even has a notebook where he rhymes, but no one knows about it.
To reform their unruly son, parents send him for the summer to the village to the "old witch" — his grandmother, depriving him of his computer and phone. He will have to listen to his father's terrible vinyl records, eat oatmeal with blood sausage, sift through old junk that has accumulated over the years at the farm, and herd sheep over the mountains. And meet new, unlike any of the familiar people. The book is about the storms and tempests raging in the soul of a teenager who desperately needs a wise mentor nearby, but from whom they demand to "be normal," "grow up," "learn to be responsible"; who seeks recognition but fears rejection.
A novel written with humor and great sympathy for all teenagers who are treading the difficult road toward finding themselves.
