Game Objective:
Assemble a crew of three brave pirates, load three weapons on board, and be the first to reach the “Black Pearl” (the ship with black sails).
Game Setup:
Choose the ‘Captain’ cards and deal them face down to each player. Give players time to familiarize themselves with their character and its abilities listed on the card.
Divide the remaining cards into three decks: ‘Crew’ cards, ‘Weapons’ cards, and ‘Abandoned Ship’ cards. Shuffle each deck separately and place them face down next to the game board.
Players choose their tokens (these are the players' ships) and place them on the starting sector with the image of a ship with white sails.
The first player to move is the one who last sailed on a ship. If it’s impossible to determine turn order this way, players take turns rolling the die. The first player is the one who rolled the highest number of points. Then play proceeds clockwise.
Game Play:
On their turn, a player can perform the following actions in order:
— move their token;
— attack an opponent's ship or bastion.
A player may not replace one action with another; however, they may skip one action if they wish. In this case, they announce loudly to their opponents: “The ship is adrift!” (if the player does not move the token), “Drop anchor!” (if the player skips the attack phase).
A player can move their token in any direction for 1 cell if they do not have any crew members yet. Depending on the ‘Crew’ cards in their hand, the ship can travel a greater distance. The token can only be moved across sea cells; the ship cannot pass through bastions or land. Multiple tokens may occupy the same cell on the board simultaneously.
A player can attack a bastion if their token is on a sea cell adjacent to the bastion. To attack the bastion, the player rolls the die. If the die shows more than three points (4, 5, or 6), the attack is successful. In this case, the player draws one ‘Crew’ card or one ‘Weapon’ card of their choice from the deck. If the die shows 3 or fewer points, the player skips their next turn to patch holes in the sails.
A player can attack an opponent's ship if their tokens are on the same or adjacent cells. To battle, players take turns rolling the die and adding the rolled points to the values of their ‘Weapon’ cards (if they have any). The pirate with the higher total wins. The defeated player returns one ‘Weapon’ card and one ‘Crew’ card (if they have any) to the discard pile.
If a player lands on a cell with an abandoned ship, they draw an ‘Abandoned Ship’ card from the deck and read its properties aloud to all players, then apply them.
Played cards from the ‘Crew’, ‘Weapon’, and ‘Abandoned Ship’ decks are sent to the discard piles. If the decks run out of cards but there is still no winner, shuffle the cards from the discard pile and place them face down next to the game board again.
Game End and Determining the Winner:
The game ends when one of the players reaches the ship “Black Pearl” with three ‘Crew’ and three ‘Weapon’ cards in hand. This player is declared the winner and the Master of all seas.
