Several centuries have passed since the world ceased to be what it once was. Knowledge is passed down from mouth to mouth - written sources were lost during the catastrophe. On that day, nature decided to reclaim everything that humanity...
had taken from it over the centuries. But there are still those driven by insatiable curiosity and the desire to uncover all the mysteries of the past.
You are young and know almost nothing about the old world, but are passionately eager for new knowledge. Your parents told you everything they learned from their parents, but the unquenchable thirst for discovery compels you to dig up what remains from the civilizations of the past. Together with your best friend, you will embark on a quest for knowledge. What awaits you? What secrets will the ruins of the past reveal to you?
“Boreal” – is a dueling game in which you will embark on a journey for knowledge about bygone times and build your "pyramid of knowledge" from the cards you acquire. You will have to compete with an opponent for the most valuable cards, find the most advantageous way to place the acquired cards in your pyramid, and, of course, enjoy the very beautiful illustrations.
How to play:
Players take turns. A player's turn consists of 2 phases.
1. Research phase
In this phase, the player can choose between 2 actions:
- Exploration: the player chooses an available card on the game board, the cost of which does not exceed the number of available compasses - research points, or takes a card from their reserve, pays its cost, and places the card in the pyramid, applying the card's effect, if there is one. The effects of some cards activate immediately upon placement and affect the current game situation: they can be used, for example, to move cards in the pyramid, take a card into reserve, or gain compasses. Other effects activate at the end of the game and, when certain conditions are met, allow the player to earn victory points for cards in their pyramid.
- Reconnaissance: the player selects any card from the game board and places it in their reserve - they can play it later.
2. Rest phase
Regardless of the action taken in the research phase, the player must perform the rest phase. The player receives compasses based on the number of matching symbols on the cards in their pyramid.
The game continues until one of the players completes their pyramid (places all 10 cards). Each player counts the victory points on the cards in their pyramid. The player with the most points wins.
