Vera Reznik – translator, writer, teacher. She translated Ortega y Gasset, Jorge Luis Borges, Miguel de Unamuno, Jorge Guillen, Octavio Paz, Umberto Eco, and other authors. She has been a finalist for the Andrei Bely Prize twice and was also... nominated for the "Clear Glade" prize.
The book "Simple Prose" is written in beautiful, extraordinarily calm, and detailed language, and it is not as simple as its title suggests. The banal plots at first glance do not lack a touch of absurdity and phantasmagoria. In expressiveness and observation, in the ability to capture and describe the most elusive sensations, states of a person, the most fleeting thoughts, Vera Reznik's prose could be compared to Nabokov's books – but they are written without any imitation, in their own voice. On the surface, there are no bright events, feats, or disasters in these novellas and stories – just ordinary calm life, mundane tasks, but on an internal level, there are such dizzying adventures of imagination and memory that observing them sends the reader on a magical mysterious journey.
