The book tells about the life and work of the outstanding painter Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (1817–1900).
The creative genius of the master is embodied in more than 6000 paintings, most of which are dedicated to the sea.
«The creator of fierce storms... and the enchanting beauty of the calm sea», Aivazovsky, more than anyone else, praised «water with its extraordinary beauties» — his brush was adept at creating striking images of shipwrecks and storms as well as poetic landscapes of the elegiac sea. The artist made a significant contribution to the development of battle painting, devoting many paintings to naval battles that glorified the Russian fleet.
A separate chapter of the book is dedicated to Aivazovsky's favorite place — the Crimea, where the artist lived a long fruitful life and created a whole gallery of paintings with delightful Crimean views.
