"Fiesta (The Sun Also Rises)" and "A Farewell to Arms!", as well as the novella "The Torrents of Spring" and two collections of short stories — "In Our Time" and "Men Without Women". Hemingway's creative style was formed in the 1920s: conciseness, brevity of narrative, intolerance to pathos and sentimentality — and at the same time an expanded thematic structure, lyrical subtext, and serious ethical questions. This style was influenced by his work as a newspaper reporter and World War I, in which the writer participated. Disillusionment with former ideals, a collapse of faith in progress, in the possibility of changing the world for the better — this is the fate of those who have seen the grim brutality of life. These themes permeate Hemingway's early prose, primarily the novel "Fiesta", whose characters belong to the so-called "lost generation": they have returned from the war and now seek to escape the burdensome memories by immersing themselves in the whirlpool of Parisian life. They experience a thirst for new impressions and a hunger for heartfelt human communication. They can only feel renewed, fully alive in those rare moments granted to them by selfless love and friendship. The novel "A Farewell to Arms!", the novella "The Torrents of Spring", as well as some stories are published in new translations.
