Cafe of Death

Marina visits the "cafe of death" — a kind of club where, by sharing their stories and thoughts, people can ease the pain of losing a loved one. Recently, Marina's mother passed away. In the past, she gave up her... ambitions and left the university where she intended to write her dissertation. Realizing that she wouldn't last long without a job, Marina got a job as a lab assistant at a school. The work allows her to escape. Everything she does after her mother's death is an attempt to forget. And also — to remember... When Marina turned five, her family moved to a small southern town. There, Marina met Karina, and the girls immediately became inseparable. Even their mothers called them both "Marinka-Karinka," and Lisa, Marina's older sister, was terribly jealous of her new friend. School, walks in the forest, on the way to which they had to pass the house of the neighboring witch, Baba Nino; not-so-frightening childhood secrets. The girls grew up, made plans for their lives, and the secrets became more and more fateful: one day, Marina found out that her older sister was pregnant. Marina was taken to Moscow, Lisa stayed on the platform, and the connection with Karina gradually faded away. Fifteen years later, a girl appears on the doorstep of Marina's apartment. She looks very much like someone, but who? Like Karina, Lisa, their mother, or maybe like herself?..
