Vicente Blasco Ibáñez (1867-1928) was a leading Spanish writer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The novel gained special popularity due to its film adaptation, in which Greta Garbo played the role of Helena. Thanks to this role, the Snow Queen from Sweden achieved fantastic success and the persona of a femme fatale, a fatal woman, a vamp.
