Madame Maigret's Friend

Simenon's novels about Commissioner Maigret differ from most other detective stories, which are based on intricate crimes, and their investigation resembles a clever puzzle. Simenon aims to explain the social and political motives behind the crime. His characters are not professional killers and fraudsters, but ordinary people who break the law not due to their criminal inclinations, but because of circumstances that prove stronger than they are and human nature in general. At the suggestion of an acquaintance, Madame Maigret visits the dentist. Before one of the visits, she met a young woman with a child in a park in the square. The ladies engaged in conversation, and the commissioner's wife started to come early specifically to talk with the woman she liked. Suddenly, the woman noticed something and left, leaving the boy in Madame Maigret's care. The visit to the dentist was canceled, and it later turned out that this story was part of a complex criminal case investigated by Commissioner Maigret.
