The book contains quotes from Napoleon Bonaparte, recorded on the island of Saint Helena by a member of his entourage, Count Emmanuel Augustin de Las Casas. Napoleon's thoughts, concerning not only politics and events during his reign but also history,... philosophy, and literature, provide insight into the multifaceted nature of this legendary figure, the depth of knowledge of the great statesman and commander. The translations of the emperor's sayings are presented in the order they appeared in the Paris edition of 1820 and are accompanied by the necessary comments from the translator. The book also includes other sayings of Napoleon found in correspondence and memoirs of his contemporaries.
