"The Financier" (1912) - the first part of the monumental "Trilogy of Desire", which also includes the novels "Titan" and "Stoic". It is based on the life story of millionaire Charles Yerkes. The main character of the trilogy is Frank Cowperwood. The commercial environment surrounding Frank since childhood shapes his psychology as an entrepreneur. Starting with small speculations and gradually getting involved in bold and risky operations, in the harsh conditions of competition, Cowperwood acquires a fortune. His assertiveness, energy, and talent make him a financial genius. Realizing the power of the capital and professional experience he has accumulated, Frank Cowperwood proclaims his life motto, which gives the name to the entire trilogy: "My desires come first".
