Cyrano de Bergerac

Edmond Rostand - a brilliant playwright, destined to revive the traditions of French romantic art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The fame of his plays - "Princess of Dreams" (1895), "The Orphan" (1900), "Chantecler" (1910) -... was overshadowed by the heroic comedy "Cyrano de Bergerac," first staged at the Paris theater "Port-Saint-Martin" on December 27, 1897. The hero is a French poet and philosopher of the 17th century, known for his wit and dueling skills. This work by the 29-year-old author, thanks to the brilliant Alexandrian verse combined with a piercing love intrigue, was destined to become one of the most performed plays in world theater. 
The translation by E. Baevskaya published in this edition fully reflects all the dramatic features of the original. The text is accompanied by an afterword and comments.
