In 2005, the autobiographical book by Vera Pavlovna Frolova "Search for Me in Russia" was published. Released in a modest print run of 500 copies, the book immediately became a bibliographic rarity: within this substantial volume, readers were presented with...
the diaries that young Vera kept during her captivity in Germany from 1942 to 1945.
"I was 17 years old when the suburb of Leningrad, Strylna, where I was born and attended school, was occupied by German-fascist troops. And in the spring of 1942, the Nazis took me and my mother to Germany, where we became 'ostarbeiters', in other words, 'eastern slaves'..." — Vera Pavlovna wrote in the preface to the first edition, preceding this restrained and concise retelling of painfully terrifying biographical facts with a powerful human document — the testimony of an eyewitness and participant in one of the most monstrous tragedies of the 20th century.
"After we were liberated by the Soviet troops in March 1945, we returned to our homeland. My only 'trophy' from Germany was then a battered straw 'suitcase' containing a bundle of diary notes..." Written partly on the paper packaging of German fertilizers, these notes were carefully kept by Vera Pavlovna throughout her life and were personally prepared by her for publication.
The chronicle of four years of life in captivity formed four parts of the book "Search for Me in Russia". This volume includes the first and second parts of Vera Pavlovna Frolova's diary, covering the events of 1942 and 1943.
