«The Unknown Andersen: Tales and Stories» — a collection of late works by Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875), revealing new facets of the writer's creative personality, not only as the creator of immortal children's tales but also as a deep, wise...
man with certain philosophical and religious views, addressing his works primarily to an adult audience. The book includes sixteen tales in modern translations by masters of the domestic translation school — Nora Kiyamova, Nina Fyodorova, Elena Krasnova, and Olga Drobot. Most of the works were published in the anniversary collection of H.C. Andersen's works, released in 2005 and became a bibliographic rarity; several tales were translated specially for this edition. The collection opens with an introductory article by a specialist in Andersen's works — A.V. Korovin. The book is complemented by unique illustrations by the Russian artist and scenographer Oskar Klever (1887–1975). The illustrations for the tales and stories of H.C. Andersen, created in Tsarskoye Selo, in the camp in Konitc in 1941–1942, and in Leningrad in the early 1970s, became one of the main themes in the artist's work.
