Modern clothing is maximally simplified, short-lived, and impersonal. It is unlikely that the next generation will carefully preserve jeans or a sweatshirt from a chain store as a memory of their grandfather or grandmother. Fortunately, some items of vintage wardrobe have survived to this day. The opportunity to touch the material culture of the past means the chance to feel the rhythm and aroma of a life that cannot be returned to – a life when things served a person for decades, accompanied them through the ups and downs of life, and sometimes were even passed down as an inheritance. Nikita Ovodkov - a researcher and collector of vintage urban clothing - recreates the image of a Russian urban man from the pre-revolutionary years using the best specimens from his collection.
