Since ancient times, there has been a custom in Japan - if a man and woman who love each other for some reason cannot be together, they find a secluded corner and die together. The police call such cases "collusion suicides of lovers" and usually do not conduct a thorough investigation. When the bodies of an official and a waitress are found on the seashore on a cold January day, the police of Fukuoka Prefecture have no doubt: this is the suicide of lovers by conspiracy. However, experienced detectives Jutaro Torigai and Kiichi Mihara are confident that there was some malicious intent in this case.
