Illustrated History of Medicine

The work of two German professors Theodor Meyer-Scheinegg and Karl Sudhoff will take us through several millennia of the history of medicine, from magic to real science, from ancient times to the "golden" 19th century.
Thanks to this book, we will learn about surgery in Ancient Babylon, visit medical institutions of Ancient Greece and the first medieval anatomical theaters in Europe, together with Paracelsus invent the first "medicines" from chemical compounds, observe the incredible experiments of Frederick Ruysch, witness the first vaccination performed by English physician Edward Jenner against smallpox, and, of course, appreciate the grand discoveries of Russian surgeon Nikolai Pirogov.
By the way, this book also has a history: it was published in the early last century, yet it is still considered one of the most outstanding and reliable sources in this field. One of its merits is the abundance of illustrations depicting various moments in the history of the development of medical art, but for the new edition, we have prepared an improved illustrative series, where classic black-and-white drawings are replaced by full-color reproductions of masterpieces of world painting.
