This book is about a young man who wanted to engage in music and art but was born and lived in a country where there was no place for him and his creativity. He was interested in rock music, but... it was under an unofficial ban. He dreamed that his songs would be heard not only in informal gatherings, and at first this seemed unattainable. But he was talented, determined, persistent, and absolutely free internally. Achieving his goals in less than a decade, he became a hero for millions of his compatriots. The country began to change, and his songs, which became part of the history of Russian music, became for many the embodiment of these changes. Denis Boyarinov is a music journalist, curator of music events and exhibitions, who has worked and published in the magazines "OM", "Time Out Moscow", and "Afisha". He is one of the creators of the independent online media Colta.ru, dedicated to culture and art, where he curated the section "Contemporary Music". For more than 20 years, he has been writing about Russian and foreign music - in a range from underground electronics to phenomena of pop and rock mainstream. Masha Shishova is an illustrator and artist, engaged in book, magazine, and commercial illustration, as well as artistic design for concerts and performances. She currently teaches at several art educational institutions, leads a supplementary education course on illustration at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, draws, and works with ceramics. "Tsoi. The Story of a Rock Star in Letters and Pictures" is an illustrative nonfiction work, where the separate episodes of the band "Kino" and Viktor Tsoi's life come together to create a picture of significant changes, and each person experiences it in their own way. This book is a collective image, a metaphor of the era. It tells the story of an idol for generations that will appeal to both modern teenagers and adults.
