Pavel Pavlovich Muratov — an outstanding Russian historian, a specialist in European and Asian art, an expert in icon painting, a literary and art critic, publisher, translator, and publicist. He was the curator in the department of fine arts and classical antiquities of the Rumyantsev Museum, published the art magazine «Sofia» together with K.F. Nekrasov, and was an active figure in the art field before and after his emigration: he organized exhibitions and collaborated with many specialized newspapers and magazines.
