Pavel Pavlovich Muratov is an outstanding Russian historian, a specialist in European and Asian art, an expert in icon painting, a literary and art critic, publisher, translator, and journalist. He was the custodian in the Department of Fine Arts and Classical Antiquities of the Rumyantsev Museum, along with K.F. Nekrasov published the art magazine "Sofia", and was an active figure in the field of art both before and after his emigration: he organized exhibitions and collaborated with many specialized newspapers and magazines. Pavel Muratov is also known as a writer, among his most famous works are the historical novel "Egeria" and, of course, the book of refined and observant essays "Images of Italy". The book "Images of Italy" is a detailed multifaceted study of the development of Italian art from the Early Renaissance to the early 20th century, written based on many years of research and the author's travels through the cities of Italy.
