In Another World. Notes 2014–2017

Isabelle Grav is a professor of theory and history of art at the Higher School of Fine Arts "Städel School" (Frankfurt), a curator, and publisher of the critical journal Texte zur Kunst. In her new book, a collection of autofictional texts, Isabelle turns not to external plots but to something quite intimate, attempting through writing to overcome the pain of losing her parents and the anxiety of the looming catastrophe. However, the fixation on everyday life and subjective observations paradoxically returns the narrator to the external, but transformed by personal experience "another world." In her masterfully sketched notes, reminiscent of the mythology of Roland Barthes, Grav captures the radical political, social, and cultural changes that occurred during the period from 2014 to 2017, analyzing how these macro-shifts have influenced her own life.
