A Single Man

The novel "A Single Man," first published in 1964 and adapted into a film in 2009 by Tom Ford (with Colin Firth in the lead role), is one of Isherwood's most famous works.
It depicts a day in the life of an elderly university professor, who has recently lost his closest person - and now does not know how and why to continue living.
He is constantly surrounded by people - people who perhaps even love him and certainly try to understand and support him. But their good intentions only make him feel his absolute loneliness all the more intensely.
