«English as a joke» includes about two hundred English and American jokes, the texts of which have not undergone any simplification and thus contain a large number of commonly used vocabulary and many colloquial expressions of modern English. The book... is adapted for language learners in the following way: each joke is repeated twice: first, there is the English text with «hints» - with a literal Russian translation and lexical-grammatical commentary (that is, adapted), and then - the same text, but already unadapted, without hints. Beginners learning English can read the text with hints first, and then the same joke - without hints. Those improving their English can do the opposite: read the text without hints, glancing at the hints as needed. Memorization of words and expressions occurs through their repetition, without cramming. In addition, the reader gets used to the logic of the English language, begins to «feel» it.
