"Fury of Dracula. Third Edition" – is a new edition of the famous semi-cooperative game for 2-5 players, inspired by Bram Stoker's classic novel. This is a deductive game where one player takes on the role of Dracula, while one to four players control hunters. These sides are entirely unique and differ not only in game mechanics but also in victory conditions. Dracula moves secretly throughout the game, trying to evade the hunters while creating new vampires across Europe, bringing his victory closer. The hunters, on the other hand, try to prepare, track Dracula down, and then defeat him to put an end to his lineage forever.
The game features an interesting mechanic related to time. Turns represent days divided into times of day: day and night, dawn and dusk. As time passes in the game, Dracula's influence increases. This mechanic greatly invigorates the gameplay and adds even more atmosphere.
The new edition also boasts fresh illustrations, redesigned components, improved rules and mechanics, and new components in the setup.
For seasoned hunters, the game offers a set of advanced rules that significantly enhances Dracula's abilities, making his gameplay more interesting and unpredictable.
How to play?
All game actions take place on a vast map of Europe. Players must divide roles among themselves. One player becomes Dracula, while the others take control of the hunters. You can also play in duel mode, where one player controls all the hunters.
The game consists of rounds and continues until one side wins. Rounds are divided into phases, starting with the Hunters' Phase, which is divided into Day and Night. Each hunter performs one action during the day and one action at night. The options are quite interesting:
Movement – occurs only during the day, moving the piece across the board. Hunters can move along roads between neighboring cities and by railroads, spending a ticket. The second option allows bridging larger distances. Additionally, hunters can use ports.
Equipment – allows acquiring useful items for battling Dracula, but to do this, they must be in cities. Following this action is the drawing of an Event deck, which can lead to interesting consequences!
Rest – simply allows healing one wound.
Trade – allows secretly exchanging items if the hunters are in the same city.
Special action – various actions with event cards or hunter boards.
Buying a ticket – allows acquiring a train ticket, with a maximum of two tickets held at once.
Search – allows hunting for Dracula's traces in places he has visited.
Since the hunters play cooperatively, they can and will communicate with each other, plan moves, read card texts, and more. All these actions are performed openly, while the player controlling Dracula listens and remembers…
Then comes Dracula's phase, during which he can move secretly, recruit new allies, create vampires, and influence the forces of nature. Moving across the map, Dracula leaves Encounter cards on the game board, which allow him to set traps and create vampires. Moving by sea is quite dangerous for Dracula – not only does he receive wounds, but the risk of detection is also much higher.
Who won?
All hunters play as a team, so they either achieve victory or face defeat together. Dracula, however, plays for himself and moves secretly throughout Europe while being hunted. Dracula's goal is to raise his Influence level to thirteen. This can be achieved, firstly, by creating new vampires, and secondly, by defeating hunters in combat. The hunters' objective, accordingly, is to track down and defeat the count before he increases his Influence.
