Like all grown-up owlets, Lyolik had to learn how to fly. But he wasn't very fond of putting in the effort. Instead of training, he preferred to sit in his usual spot on a high beam under the barn's roof...
and come up with "wise" plans. After all, they say that owls are the smartest birds! But the day came when Mama Owl firmly said: "Let's do it this way: I'll go for food, and you start practicing. I hope that by the time I return, you'll be able to fly down by yourself." However, instead of learning to fly, Lyolik devised a brilliant scheme, as he thought: to use a whole line of farm animals as a "living escalator"—from a tall little horse to a tiny duckling. Jumping from one back to another, Lyolik soon made it to the ground without once flapping his wings. His plan worked, and Lyolik was already preparing to receive congratulations. But not so fast: as it turned out, Mama Owl had been quietly watching him all this time and saw what her little sly one was up to. She didn't let on that she knew everything, but she found a way to expose the deceiver. "Well now, since you’re such a good boy, why don’t you fly back up!" she asked. This is a fun, kind, and educational story about the consequences of deceit and the importance of responsibility. True wisdom lies not in avoiding work, but in learning to cope with difficulties.
