The Will of Heaven and the Fate of Man. Works and Translations

Larisa Evgenievna Pomerantseva (1938–2018) — a well-known Russian (and Soviet) sinologist, translator, literary historian, and talented educator. Her name is associated with the first complete translation into Russian of the largest philosophical monument of the Han era (2nd century BC – 2nd century AD) "Huainanzi," or "Philosophers from Huainan."

The aim of this publication is to bring together the scientific works of L.E. Pomerantseva, combining them with her translations, in order to recreate the most complete picture of the scholar's creative heritage. The collection includes 15 scientific articles; the monograph "Late Daoists on Nature, Society, and Art"; an introductory article to the complete translation of "Huainanzi" (only the first chapter — "On the Original Dao" — is published in this edition); all previously published translations of monuments. The collection also includes translations of six "biographies" (leizhuan) from the "Historical Records" of Sima Qian, five of which have never been published before and have come down to us from the personal archive of the scholar.
