The Will to Live. Tragic Fates of the Inmates of Auschwitz-Birkenau

The book is the result of seven years of work by writer and director Chochana Buchobza, during which she investigated the deportation of women to Auschwitz-Birkenau, which began in March 1942.

Based on hundreds of testimonies from survivors and post-war trial protocols against the SS, the author reconstructs life in the death camp and tells the stories of prisoners from all over occupied Europe.

The main characters of the book are the camp inmates, as well as resistance fighters who tried to save women from the gas chambers and doctors who refused to participate in the SS experiments on humans. In the horrific living conditions and the misfortunes that befell them, the Auschwitz prisoners were defenseless, yet they demonstrated courage and bravery. This story, dedicated to their memory, is a hymn to solidarity and freedom, as well as the will to live against all odds.
