The second half of the fourteenth millennium is upon us, and the world is quite strange.
Turning events in the history of this world are yet to come for us, the readers: the triumph of high technologies beyond our imagination, war, and the downfall of humanity, followed by its rebirth and a new world. And one day, a boy from a lost village ruled by a wizard (there are wizards in this new world, but they aren't quite wizards) will find something remarkable in the mountains, disrupt the established order, embark on a long journey to a distant goal, and experience thrilling adventures along the way.
This saga will feature knights and squires, knightly swords (with peculiarities) and mummies, wandering robots and talking beavers, recycling and genetic engineering, forty-three million dimensions (do not attempt to imagine them), old movies, and, strangely enough, dragons (but they aren't quite dragons). There will be chases, dangers, constructive debates, and the fate of Earth. And all this (as well as much more) will be narrated by a chronicler — an artificial intelligence, an alien from the past, a connoisseur and guardian of human history, an ally of the one destined to change that history.
For Robin Sloan, a writer and futurist, the analog is inseparable from the digital, and the adventures of people are intertwined with the adventures of ideas. His worlds are astonishing, cozy, and one would want to live in them. “Under the Dragon's Moon” is a fairy tale epic and a coming-of-age story, a knightly quest and a futurist forecast. One boy has known since early childhood that he was destined to accomplish something significant. This is a story of him not being mistaken.
