How long does the present last – the author invites reflections on what it means to live in the moment and how our consciousness creates the sensation of “now”.

What is time and why is it always lacking? Answering this question is not as simple as it seems, believes journalist and writer, best-selling author of “The Formula of Happiness” Stefan Klein. In his new book, he studies the complex mechanisms of time perception, relying on research in psychology, philosophy, and brain physiology, and arrives at unexpected conclusions. It turns out that our internal clocks work quite differently than external ones. This is why happy moments pass unnoticed while unpleasant ones stretch on, seemingly forever. The author explains why we lose the sense of the moment due to fatigue, where the constant rush comes from, and why years seem to accelerate as we age. The good news is that internal clocks can be adjusted: learning to concentrate, rid oneself of anxiety, and distribute load differently can help regain a sense of life’s fullness. Read about how to do this in the book “The Sense of Time”.

Quotes:
"There are moments when it seems that the laws of time stop working. These are magical moments: when we stand on a mountain peak or watch the ocean waves, we experience inspiration or love, then plans, worries, and memories lose their significance for us."

"This book is about the hidden dimensions of time. We will discuss phenomena that cannot be measured in minutes and hours. The main questions are – how does the perception of time arise, how do we experience time, and how can we learn to relate to it more consciously?"

"The sense of time is an extremely delicate activity of the mind. It involves almost all the functions of the brain. The sense of body and perception of the senses, memory and resources, the ability to plan for the future, emotions and self-awareness – all work together and, if even one of these mechanisms breaks down, the sense of time will be affected or completely disappear."

"Studying the sense of time is an exciting journey through our consciousness."

For those who want to learn to deal with time more wisely and live in harmony with their own rhythm.
