In the very center of Russia, just 150 kilometers from Moscow, near the glorious city of Ryazan, lies a wondrous land that has been known since ancient times as Meschera.
Various peoples have inhabited the territory of Meschera since ancient times:...
there are traces left by Hungarians, Balts, Finno-Ugric peoples, and Tatars. Therefore, the stories, or rather tales, that the locals pass down from generation to generation are diverse and fascinating.
In the Meschera tales, a whole world unfolds before us, where reality is closely intertwined with fantasy: next to a real Tatar khanate, you may encounter the kingdoms of frogs and horses, search for Dobrynya Island on a map, as well as the lost land of the warriors Pichkemorie or Lake Chudino, in which an entire city drowned.
People's beliefs are skillfully woven into the tales - Christian and pagan: gods, angels, birds and animals, nature spirits and various evil spirits surround humans, helping or harming them.
Who created the world - a duck or bees? Did Meschera have its own amazons? What is the connection between the old woman Kolyada and the ancient German goddess Holda? Who is Bura-yaga and what does she have in common with Baba-Yaga? Who are the chamka, anchutki, and vihornye? Why does the house spirit feel sad? Why do frogs croak loudly before it rains? How to deal with Blud-Balamut? All of this will be revealed in the Meschera tales.
