The End of the Legend

The prose of A. Kekilbaev is mythical and legendary. A vast... layer of tales about the great Lord is uniquely and artistically expressed in the famous novel "The End of the Legend". What is this work about? About love, about creativity, about the sufferings of the soul, about the fragility of power? A young Khan's wife, competing with the older one, decides to build a minaret. A young architect takes up the work, having seen the otherworldly beauty and tenderness of the Young Khan's wife, he falls madly in love with her. The erected minaret — the embodiment of elevated and tender love — torments the Lord. An order is given — a terrible, inhumane one. The great architect is blinded so that he will never be able to create anything like it; his tongue is cut out so that he will never be able to tell anyone how such an extraordinary structure is built.
