Elena Garro is a Mexican writer. She, like Juan Rulfo, is considered a "precursor" of magical realism. Garro's novel is published in Russian for the first time.

The town of Ixtepete exists simultaneously in the past, present, and future. It observes... soldiers appearing on its streets and begins its story. The new center of attraction becomes a hotel. In it, the soldiers keep their mistresses—beautiful women stolen from various corners of the country. The townspeople hate them, especially the beautiful Julia, belonging to the general. It is she who, in their opinion, is guilty of the nightly murders.
Soon a young man arrives in Ixtepete. The general senses he may lose his mistress, and more blood is spilled on the streets of the town. This terrifies the residents, but not the young girl Isabel. She is obsessed with love for the general, while the general is obsessed with Julia. Who will be able to emerge alive from this love polygon?

"Memories of the Future" is the source of magical realism.
