In Moscow, a young artist named David dies under mysterious circumstances. The police are convinced it is a suicide due to an overdose of sleeping pills. However, investigator Timofey Lottozky has a different opinion. He tries to establish the involvement of the artist's friend, Alice, in what happened. The girl behaves very strangely: she writes letters to herself, analyzes her relationship with David in detail, which drove the artist into depression during his lifetime. Moreover, she reacted to the news of his death too calmly and even cheerfully. Using an unusual interrogation system, where he does not ask the suspect a single question but silently "scans" their inner state, Timofey begins to work with Alice. And for the first time in his practice, he hears nothing in response, as if he is addressing the wrong person…
