The Origin of Art

The work of the prominent German ethnographer and art historian E. Grosse (1862—1927) was published in Russian translation in 1899.

Since then, the scholar's views have been subjected to just criticism and revision multiple times, and scientific perspectives on the methodology of studying art in antiquity and the reasons for its emergence have changed and developed. 

However, this does not in any way diminish the study's most important virtue — its fundamental nature, encyclopedic quality, and high richness of factual material, which still holds significant value.
