"The Gadfly" (1897) is the first and, as it is considered, the best novel by the English writer Ethel Lilian Voynich. Voynich returns to the fate of her hero thirteen years later in the novel "Interrupted Friendship" (1910), which tells of his life in South America. A few decades later, the last novel from the celebrated Gadfly cycle is released—"Take Off Your Shoes" (1945), centered around Beatrice Telford, the great-grandmother of the legendary hero.
