The widow of businessman Marina Zap'yantseva approaches Colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Lev Guryev. Unknown individuals have kidnapped her daughter and are demanding a hefty ransom. There is only one day to collect the money, and no contact with law enforcement, otherwise the girl will be killed. Guryev understands: such a harsh demand must have serious grounds, which means the criminals are familiar with the family of the deceased businessman. The detectives manage to trace the route of the car that took the child away, but the vehicle is soon found burned on the outskirts of Moscow.
