Flint and Mirror

When Hugh O'Neill turned ten years old, he had to leave his native Ireland and go to England to hide from his usurping uncle. Before the trip, the ancient peoples of Ireland proclaim Hugh their protector and in confirmation of this oath present him with a shard of flint. Years pass, and Hugh catches the attention of the Queen of England. As a sign of her patronage, she presents him with an obsidian mirror, which can transmit messages over a distance. Now Hugh O'Neill, now the Earl of Tyrone and Lord of the North, finds himself in a very difficult situation, as war has broken out between England and Ireland.
