Sustainable Investing. A Navigator through the World of ESG

The term ESG first emerged in 2004 when UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan invited key asset owners to join the initiative "The Caring Investor Wins." At that time, large corporations believed that the ESG agenda contradicted their goals and objectives. Now, more global investors and international corporations, along with local market participants, are realizing that sustainable (responsible) investing is closely related to issues of ecology, social responsibility, and sound corporate governance. Moreover, neglecting these issues poses dangers to business.

The collection features 34 articles by international scholars and high-level practitioners exploring various aspects of sustainable investing and its inseparable ESG agenda. Reading it, one understands not only how fragile the world is and how dependent it is on human actions, but also how people can impact (and do impact) it. And how important it is to recognize that we do not live in a complex world, but in a world that is complexly arranged, where we must continuously align ourselves with the changing situation.
