Masterpieces of Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau, or Modern Style, is all about the beautiful, original, mysterious, and at times, openly sensual style that dominated the visual arts at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. This artistic phenomenon is associated with numerous renowned architects, painters, graphic artists, and applied arts masters, but arguably the most prominent and significant names are Antonio Gaudi, Gustav Klimt, and Alphonse Mucha, as evidenced by the consistent attention their personas receive from the broadest audiences. This book is dedicated to these three authors, but it doesn’t limit itself to their creative legacy within the mentioned style; rather, it allows readers to trace the gradual emergence of each master, from their earliest works to mature pieces that demonstrate their interest in exploring new frontiers in a rapidly changing world of art at that time.

About the Author
Natalia Dmitrievna Kortunova is a senior research associate at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, curator of the museum's collection of 19th–20th century sculpture, art historian, and author of lecture courses on the history of Western European art and the history of sculpture, as well as bestselling books titled "How to Read and Understand Painting," "How to Read and Understand Art," "Art Nouveau. Klimt, Gaudi, Mucha," "Signs, Symbols, and Allegories in Art." She is the curator of several exhibitions at the museum and co-curator of exhibition projects at the museum — "Vim Delvoye. Mimicry" (2014), "Alexander Calder. Retrospective" (2015), "The Congo River. Art of Central Africa" (2016). She is an expert for the project "ModernArt&Development."
