Girl at War

Zagreb, summer of 1991. Ten-year-old Ana lives a carefree life: she rides her bike with her best friend Luka, takes care of her younger sister Rahela, and loves to listen to thrilling stories her father tells her at night. But this life ends when the civil war starts in Yugoslavia.

Ana loses her parents, her sister is evacuated to America, where she will be cared for by a foster family.

Ana manages to escape, but ten years later, living a completely different life in New York, she realizes that she must return — to find her home, to learn what happened to her loved ones, to relive painful memories, and finally to confront her past, gaining the ability to move forward.
