"Chicken with Prunes" is the second comic by Marjane Satrapi after "Persepolis". In the form of an Eastern fairy tale, Satrapi tells the story of her uncle, the famous Iranian musician Nasser Ali Khan. After his wife angrily breaks his... favorite tar, Nasser Ali lies in bed to die because life without music completely loses its meaning for him. The comic describes to the reader eight days, which include both memories of his life and the future of his children, and a meeting with death.
Satrapi has a subtle feeling for reality; she skillfully intertwines in her graphic novels the spirit of the old and new East—so the themes of her works touch hearts in every corner of the world. In 2005, "Chicken with Prunes" won the Grand Prize at the International Comic Festival in Angoulême, and in 2011 its adaptation was nominated for the "Golden Lion" at the Venice Film Festival.
