The book you are holding also has a special story: it was compiled for the... children of the imperial couple and dedicated to Olga, the eldest daughter of Emperor Nicholas II. However, there is no doubt that it was read by all members of the first family of Russia.
"The Bible for Children" (original title - "Sacred History for Children") was compiled by a princess from the ancient Russian family of Gagarins, the famous children's writer Maria Alexandrovna Lvova, and published by the Sytin publishing house in 1904 under the personal patronage of Her Imperial Majesty Empress Alexandra Feodorovna.
After the revolution, the book was banned and only many years later was it reissued with the blessing of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', Alexy II.
For our edition, we created a new illustrative series from works of Russian and foreign classical painting, perfectly illustrating the Sacred stories of the Old and New Testament.
