Neuroses of Wartime

Works written more than a hundred years ago by well-known scientists and included in this book are united by the theme of war and its consequences. After the outbreak of World War I, which caused a mass of nerve diseases requiring explanation and treatment, debates among representatives of different psychological schools about what "traumatic neurosis" is reignited with new force. Psychoanalysts led by Z. Freud expressed their viewpoint in the collection "On the Psychoanalysis of War Neuroses" (compiled from materials of the discussion at the V International Psychoanalytic Congress in 1918), which today is of interest not only as a historical document but also as a sample of psychoanalytic thought regarding the psychoanalytic understanding of the specifics of war neuroses.

Freud was also concerned with more global issues related to war: what is our attitude towards death? How does our unconscious relate to death? Is it possible to free people from the fate of war? How does the problem of preventing wars look from a psychological perspective?
