Bleak House

At the center of the novel is the story of the young orphan Esther Summerson. After being taken under the care of a chance benefactor, Mr. Jarndyce, she finds herself at his ancient estate, known as Bleak House, after finishing her studies at a boarding school. This estate is associated with one of the most famous cases, "Jarndyce vs. Jarndyce," which has been ongoing for 50 years.

Settling into her new surroundings, the girl, by a twist of fate, becomes embroiled in a complex web of human destinies, personal feelings, criminal intrigues, and others' family secrets—one of which, as it soon turns out, has a direct connection to Esther herself…
