Here Comes the Messiah!..

"Here Comes the Messiah!" by Dina Rubina was written during her emigration to Israel and pertains to the author's early work. The novel consists of novellas and describes the everyday life of ordinary Israelis facing the challenges of adapting to... a new environment. It is filled with vivid descriptions of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and primarily dedicated to the theme of the Homeland and the feeling of the Homeland that repatriates strive to obtain. The novel describes the relocation of the family of the famous writer N. 
The heroine of another plotline is a forty-year-old music teacher Ziyama, who published an application for a Russian-language newspaper. 
The hero of the next novella, who connects and divides the heroines, is Israel itself, the promised land where Russian Jews were not expected. The characters are happy only in a country where there is Israeli heat, a foreign linguistic environment, where people make a living however they can (the music teacher publishes a political-literary magazine, and the writer cleans floors in offices in the evenings), where gunfire can be heard at night, and sons are taken into the army. Always and in everything, I am only interested in the person with all his insides: love, loneliness, anxiety, vanity, the desire to run to the horizon with his tongue out, horror of death, thirst for happiness, and most importantly - with his eternal expectation of the Messiah, who will appear at any moment and finally untangle everything we have tangled here on Earth...
